NANOCERAMIC COATING-

long weekend workshop in Väljaotsa Studio

You are welcome in my beautiful studio in a small village in Southern Estonia. We have a very private country house with a huge garden in between the forests and fields near Tartu. My studio is a separate building in our garden and is fully equipped and spacious enough to fit 4 students at a time. I will guide you through the nanoceramic coating process and will share my extensive knowledge of the technology.

The emphasis is on understanding the complete workflow and testing possible variations.

E-coating produces a durable, tightly adhering ceramic layer that protects against scratches, tarnish, moisture, chemicals, and fading. The coating is hypoallergenic and therefore particularly suitable for base metals such as brass or copper. Applied through an electrochemical process (cataphoresis), the technique allows for a wide range of colors and finishes, influenced by the underlying metal and textures.

This workshop introduces nanoceramic coating (e-coating) as a contemporary surface technology for jewellery and other conductive metal objects. You will get in-depth insights into how e-coating is used to enhance aesthetics through color and finish while simultaneously protecting metal surfaces.

The workshop alternates short theoretical inputs with extensive hands-on practice. You will learn the process stages, parameters, possibilities, and limitations, enabling to continue working independently after the course. Tools, equipment, materials, suppliers and different ways of integrating this technology into an existing artistic practice will also be discussed.

You will get the confidence and know-how needed to continue exploring e-coating on your own.

FEES AND BOOKING

Workshop fee: € 700

Deposit: €300 per participant

A deposit is required to secure your place. The remaining balance is due before the workshop begins.

Payment methods: Bank transfer, Paypal, Cash

Cancelling: If you withdraw up to 1 month before the start of the course, a processing fee of 25% of the course price will be retained. After that, there is no entitlement to reimbursement, unless the participant, who is unable to attend, provides a suitable replacement.

Other: Travel, accommodation, food and insurance are the responsibility of the participants. The transfer from Tartu to Väljaotsa studio and back every day can be organized by me, if needed.

WORKSHOP DETAILS

Duration: 3.5 days (30 hours)

From Thursday to Saturday 10am to 6pm, on Sunday 10am to 4pm

Participants: maximum 4 participants

Suitable for: students, jewellers and artists with at least basic knowledge and skill in metalwork

Language: Estonian and English

Location: private studio in Väljaotsa, Tammistu, Tartu Parish, Tartu County, 60531 Estonia.

Included: Professional equipment, a selection of materials, and individual guidance throughout the workshop.

Nanoceramic solutions for the exercises and basic metals (copper/brass/bronze/steel/aluminium) for initial exercises are included in the cost (silver is not included nor available). You should bring your own works / materials if you want to work on more real-life situations.

Take with you: your pieces (test-strips, finished pieces etc) you want to cover with the colorful nanoceramic coating. Smaller tools/accessories like saw blades, files, sanding and grinding tips for rotary tools, burrs in different sizes and needle wheels/matting wheels / texturizing tools if you have. Apron, safety glasses, slippers and warm cardigan.
